GALLERY EXPERIENCES

SJMA's Education Department presents a range of exciting and stimulating activities to enrich your next Museum visit. Our innovative hands-on gallery activities, imagination stations, and reading galleries are suitable for children and adults, and will make the artwork on view more engaging and accessible.

Eye Openers Gallery Games for Families

A series of portable games, designed to be used by families and other intergenerational groups while in the Museum's galleries, is under development. Use of the games in the galleries is free of charge. Watch for the next edition in this award-winning series.

imagination stations

Created for visitors of all ages, these interpretive areas are designed to foster participatory learning about exhibitions in the galleries. Past Imagination Stations have engaged visitors in building a Calder stabile or creating wire sculpture; learning about the history of conceptual art; exploring the secret symbolism of a painting; and looking at actual MRIs and learning how they are made. Imagination Stations are always changing, so come in and see what's new!

reading galleries

Exhibition galleries often feature reading areas, which allow interested visitors access to more in-depth information about the works on view. SJMA's curatorial and education departments assemble a collection of books and catalogues related to the exhibition on view for visitors to peruse while in the gallery.
